Prevention and Wellness Services

Annual Wellness Exams

  • Adult Wellness Exam
  • Healthy Woman Exam
  • Well Child Exam and Sports Physicals (0 - 18 years)

At Hampton Family Practice we believe that ensuring your child's good health is paramount and best achieved with an annual Well Child Exam.  While a school sports physical is an important screening tool, it is limited to assessing risk for musculoskeletal or other athletic injuries and does not address your child's overall health.  Health insurance carriers agree and most cover 100% of an annual Well Child Exam with no additional copay.

For many school-aged children the annual Well Child Exam is the only visit they have with their doctor each year.  It is a valuable opportunity for your physican to get to know your child, monitor medical history, discuss your concerns and evaluate any unique issues that may influence your child's health.

The Well Child Exam includes a thorough medical evaluation, and depending on your childs age and health factors may include blood work, immunizations, developmental assessments and other diagnostics.

If your child has already had their annual exam, we are happy to complete any school sports physical forms at no additional cost to you.  Simply drop off the required forms at the office and your healthcare provider will complete them.  To schedule your child's annual wellness exam call 757-838-6335.

Bone Density Screenings (DEXA Scan)

Bone density scanning, DEXA Scan, or bone densitometry are all terms that describe the latest technology used to measure bone loss.

Hampton Family Practice offers DEXA Scan, the only test that can accurately diagnose osteoporosis or osteopenia (low bone density) by using a specialized type of x-ray that takes precise measurements of your bone density/bone loss at specific points in your body.  The lower your bone density, the greater your risk for breaking a bone.

The scan itself is quick and safe and is performed by a trained technician in a private room dedicated to the DEXA Scan.  Results give your healthcare provider important information on your bone health and how you can keep your bones healthy for a lifetime.

Most insurance carriers cover this service for postmenopausal women and others at risk for osteoporosis.
