MEDICARE ANNUAL WELLNESS VISIT

The Annual Wellness Visit (or AWV) is a benefit for beneficiaries who have been enrolled in Medicare for more than 12 months.
The goal of this yearly visit is to develop or update a prevention plan just for you, based on your current health and risk factors.

The Annual Wellness Visit is not a yearly physical exam like most other insurances cover.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR AWV

  • Review your medical and social history, including a review of your current medications and supplements, tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use, diet, physical activity and other potential risk factors.

  • Review your potential (risk factors) for depression and other mood disorders.

  • Review your functional ability and level of safety including hearing impairment, activities of daily living, fall risk and home safety.

  • Obtain medical data including height, weight, blood pressure, visual acuity and BMI (body mass index).

  • Offer education and counseling to you based on this initial assessment.

FAQ

Medicare waives your deductible and coinsurance for this exam so there is no cost to you for this specific service.

If other medical concerns present themselves at the visit and your doctor evaluates those medical concerns, your visit may result in copays, deductibles or coinsurances for the additional office services rendered.

Your doctor may feel those concerns will be best addressed in an additional office visit depending on the time needed and your medical condition. Our staff will gladly schedule your appointment.

Your provider may order diagnostic tests and lab work as a result of your wellness visit.  Medicare waives your deductible and coinsurance for some preventative screenings.  For other tests, your copays, deductibles or coinsurances may apply.
